The ladle crane, with a lifting capacity of 210 t, has a dead weight of 325t and will transport molten iron on-site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Maximum availability, 365 days a year

To ensure the highest possible availability, all crane components, as well as the drive and electrical systems, have been designed redundantly. The crane’s structure has been engineered to the highest classification, with the steel construction rated at least H3/B6. The crane’s hoists are classified in drive group 5 m (M8), making them suitable for the most demanding applications.

Thanks to the use of top-quality components and construction at the highest classification, the BRUNNHUBER crane achieves an availability of 99.8%.

Precise batch weighing

The semi-automatic crane features a main traveling hoist with a 210 t capacity and a dead weight of 170 t, as well as a 60 t auxiliary hoist capable of tilting the ladle containing molten material. Both hoists are mounted on a weighing frame, allowing batch weighing with an accuracy of ±0.1 %.

Maintenance-friendly in every aspect

To enhance serviceability and maintenance safety, the entire electrical control and regulation system is housed in a 16 m long, fully climate-controlled container.

Additionally, the BRUNNHUBER crane features a modern, ergonomic access concept, providing simple entry to all components. Instead of ladders, generous platforms have been constructed, allowing easy access to all mechanical parts of the crane.

The crane also includes an automatic lubrication system, supplying all lubrication points with grease to ensure long, trouble-free operation of mechanical components.

The crane’s gears and motors are prepared for the installation of vibration sensors and can be connected to predictive maintenance systems for condition monitoring and preventive servicing.

State-of-the-art crane control

The BRUNNHUBER crane is equipped with a safety-oriented, next-generation ABB control system. The semi-automatic mode can be expanded to full automation, and the modern control center defines the ladle crane as a 21st-century solution.

Transport and assembly

The crane was transported to Luleå, Sweden, via both land and sea, with the delivery comprising a total of 17 oversized transports.

A particular challenge was the spectacular on-site assembly. Using a 750 t crawler crane, the 325 t crane was pre-assembled on the ground and then lifted in one piece onto the outer extension of the hall crane runway.
